Ayurvedic Diet

How to eat

  • It is better to eat something bad in a small amount than eat something healthy in a large amount.
  • Too much food blocks the system.
  • Eat slowly.
  • Eat once or twice a day.
  • Do not snack too much because it is more food the body has to digest.
  • Avoid drinking a lot of liquid while eating.
  • The body spends a lot of energy on digestion, about 30%.
  • Some days rest from eating to give the digestive fire time to recuperate.
  • Without good digestive fire nothing will be digested properly.
  • Undigested food creates health problems like asthma, allergies
    and other toxins.

What to eat

  • Too much dairy foods will create mucus in the system and block the channels.
  • Try not to drink alcohol as it is not beneficial to the body or mind.
  • Avoid putting honey in hot drinks as it makes it toxic to the system.
  • Keep off too much dry food like junk food and packaged food.
  • Avoid drinking sugary drinks as they make digestion harder.
  • Eat foods with water content like vegetables and fruits.
  • Avoid mixing fruit or alcohol with dairy products.
  • Don't eat dairy products at night except for milk.
  • Mix your foods correctly to avoid indigestion.
  • Keep off caned and left over foods.
  • Prepare fresh food everyday.

When to eat

  • Only eat when hungry and thirsty.
  • Too much hunger is a mental issue and not the body.
  • Eat once in the morning and once in the late afternoon.
  • Food left undigested in the system by eating at night leads to health problems.
  • Drink plenty of water during the day.
  • The body does not need three meals a day, it is too much food.
  • Drink herbal teas. (Not flavored but real herbs.)
  • Eat when calm and not in a rush.
  • Do not talk too much during eating.
  • Try to eat in silence sometimes.
  • Do not eat while standing or moving about.
  • If nervous avoid eating until calm.
  • Eat only when the previous meal has been digested.
  • When you have eliminated waist from the body.

Seasons

  • Like changing our clothes we should change our diet when the
    seasons change.
  • Eat foods grown in the region you live, it is better for digestion.
  • Avoid ice cream, sweets and dairy products in hot weather.
  • Avoid the head becoming overheated with too much sun.
  • Avoid too much sun bathing as it is dangerous.
  • In the winter eat more heavy foods with more fat content.
  • In a cooler climate the body needs more 'fat' protection.
  • In hot weather eat more watery foods like salads and fruits.
  • The body needs more water in a hotter climate.

Fasting

  • We clean everything in our life so it should be with the body too.
  • The body cleans itself up to a point but now there is too much pollution.
  • Fasting is when we stop eating solid food.
  • Stop eating helps the digestive juices to build strength.
  • Fasting helps the body burn all unwanted dead cells, cysts and tumors.
  • The body is a cleaning machine but only when we stop eating can it clean thoroughly.
  • We nourish the body by giving it diluted fruit and vegetable juices.
  • Fasting once a week is good. Twice a week is better.
  • A clean body helps the mind to be clean also.

Weight Loss

  • Never weight yourself as there is no ideal weight for anyone.
  • Do not weight yourself as it puts unnecessary mental pressure on the psyche.
  • You first understand the cause of weight gain before taking care of the result which is being overweight.
  • Is food comforting or is its companion?
  • Go back into time to understand when food became a friend.
  • Understand when and in which situation food became a companion.
  • Usually there was a tragedy or stressful time when this craving started.
  • Unhappy and lonely school days or family members passing on their
    bad habits.
  • The problem started many years ago but now it is a good time to change.
  • Are you scared of change?
  • You are going to change anyway over time so make it the way you want.
